I just purchased a new treadmill and I’m ready to loose weight! Of course I will be dieting with my daily exercise. But how many hours or miles a day should I dedicate on my treadmill?

About 2-3 hours if possible. You should exercise mainly after eating lunch, and dinner. You should wait about 1 hour for the food to digest and then start to burn off some calories. Always remember to eat healthy goods, and sometimes give yourself a treat.

If you think exercise will make you happier : You shouldn’t spend any time on your treadmill at all. Any time spend on home exercise equipment would be far better spent having fun and laughing with your friends and family. This is far more important.
If you are dangerously overweight and need to lose weight for health reasons : 45 mins of low impact exercise in conjunction with a good diet and lots of having fun and laughing with your friends and family might help. Although a recent study suggests that 30 seconds of extremely intense exersize (remember to warm up first) is effective for weight loss.
If you must use a treadmill, please please please only use it when it is too dark/cold/rainy outside to go for a run in the fresh air.
I had a treadmill once and the most exercise I ever got from it was when I cleaned the dust off it.
