How many miles should I go on a treadmill? How long should I work out on a treadmill? I eat around 1,200-1,500 calories a day. I’m a good runner for my weight and age. My goal weight is to be 140 pounds in 1 1/2 year. Do you think this is possible if I run say, 3 miles a day everyday and eat 1,200-1,500 calories?

Yes it is possible. Make sure you are not under eating – that will do you no good in the long run. You may want to do some light weights too – muscle will help you a lot.

I usually recommend heavier weights but your young age may make that somewhat dangerous.

That sounds like a good basic plan. As you lose weight and get in better shape, you may find its possible to increase speed and mileage to help yourself along. You might also consider substituting time on a bike or swimming so you don’t get totally bored with running.

I applaud your realistic time estimate!!

Start out walking normally for 20 minutes and gradually work your way up to 30 minutes, then 40, then an hour at a time. Then start walking faster and faster to get your heart rate up. Make sure you get medically approved before starting any work out schedule. Good luck!
