I’ve bought a treadmill to lose the fat on my **** and legs and make them firmer.Every day, I walk fast for about 20 mins and then I run for 15 mins.
I want to know if running on treadmill is the same as normal running.

It is the same, with the exception that you really don’t go anywhere.

No – it isn’t the same. Outdoor running helps to improve all the little muscles in your body which help you to balance, ie, when your body makes slight adjustments each time you step on an uneven path. A treadmill can never do this.

However, treadmills are great for setting goals (ie, running at a certain pace for a certain length of time). It is very easy to cheat at outdoor running. Plus they are great if the weather is rubbish.

It is good to start on a treadmill (and try to use at least a 1% incline if your have it) but it is good to learn to run outside too. Then you can do it when you are away from the gym (on holiday etc) – then you never have an excuse for not exercising.

The main thing is to keep the running going though – so whatever helps you to keep running and keep improving is the best thing.

    Good luck, M

The cardio benefits might be comparable, but it’s not exactly the same. The impact and the muscles you use are a bit different.

If it’s a lot easier for you to do it on the treadmill, don’t worry about it too much. You shouldn’t do something like go enter a 5k without getting some actual road running in, though, and if you do go on the roads, be ready for it to be harder than you’re used to.

yes it’s different when u run on the treadmill it automatically goes back and while running on the road u have to go forward

Not sure about others but it definitely is different for me. I find running on a treadmill much a lot easier than running outside. When I get tired, I can just keep going and going whereas when I’m running outside, I find it extremely hard to keep going after running out of breath.

It is very simillar…however it is normal to combine the 2, treadmill and road running…even going off road.

That’s a good start but you might need to do a little more.

It is completely different you cannot build into the treadmill weather effort it is really like running in a comfort zone good for what it does but no comparison whatsoever sorry but for me it is robotic running no difference in surface/weather/effort etc once you star thinking a little bit laterally you will understand what I mean

it is the same but i personally do better out running on ground..
but some people do better on the treadmill so it just depends

It’s different because it can get boring since it’s always the same and your dont’ have up and down and different surfaces. Try to go out jogging at leat once a week and get some fresh air. On cold or rainy days it’s a great alternative though!

Treadmill running is like a fast paced walk, you’re running in one spot without terrain change.

Running outdoors in the best all around cardio–it just is—you’re burning fat and calories with treadmill (think of the show “‘biggest loser” but running outdoors you build muscles bc you’re changing terrain and toning muscles.–it’s just something that doesn’t compare to indoor gym running to outdoor running.
