I have just bought a treadmill and it will be in my living room now covered with carpet. I have looked at the treadmill mat being sold in a nearby sports store, but the mat appears to be made of blown PVC, and the treadmill wheels “may” easily cut a deep mark on the mat as I found that the treadmill wheels have cut a deep mark in the paper cardboard that the treadmill came with.

i suggest you get a very sturdy foam mat. the ones you find in a gym. as to where to get them you could go to a gym and ask where they got theirs
