I want to train for a 3k race.. will a treadmill help?

    a treadmill will help, if you have no way to get outside. I find that training outdoors helps for outdoor races though, because you get used to running against the elements on occasion, you become accustomed to the way the air can sometimes make your throat feel dry, and you get used to running on hills, over roots, or with any other obstacles you may come across. With a treadmill, you just get the same, cushioned run every time

    In my opinion, treadmills are good, as an alternative. Lots of people (including me) notice that outdoor running gives you more of a workout. Also, it seems to help pass the time when the scenery is actually changing. On a side note, try running on trails/grass as opposed to concrete/pavement. You have built in shock absorbers, but they can quickly wear out if you don’t take care of them. Good luck!

    Dan above me had some great points…….I’d like to add, that I don’t know how experienced you are as a runner??? but the treadmill is a good source of learning your pace! Especially when running on flat ground outside, you can get a good idea of what pace you can hold and how long you can hold it for. I never run more than a mile or two at once on the treadmill but you can get a gauge of the pace you should be running. Also you can work on form and running with as little effort as possible……..but do most of your training outdoors, it’s much better!! Good Luck
